I had a Livejournal back in the aughts, as any self-respecting chronically online teenager with writing aspirations did.
I actually left the site before the takeover when the large exodus began. Why, you (probably didn't) ask?
Because I was a dumbass with a public journal and used the same handle as my AIM. And people who I was writing about without altering names/details figured it out pretty easily. And it torpedoed a couple of friendships and a potential relationship.
That said. I don't know if I left it up out of spite--or if somehow with the takeover settings were changed--or some other mysterious reason--it was still PUBLICLY AVAILABLE AND ONLINE UNTIL LAST YEAR. I was digging through an old email account trying to unlock something or other and found an email that congratulated me for how long I had been on Livejournal.
I was mortified. Whatever I was doing I promptly dropped it and spent the rest of the afternoon making sure that page is forever lost to time. I am not someone who likes looking back on things.
Anyway. I'd seen this site mentioned on Tumblr here and there and finally decided to check it out. It warmed my cold dead millennial heart to see that long format internet journaling lives on.
It will probably be just as cringe as my old Livejournal. But at least this time I'm smart enough to use the Tumblr-dedicated username so all of the cringe is contained.
